In 2015, countries around the world adopted the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Last year, the Paris Agreement on climate change went into effect. Businesses, governments, and individuals from around the world are now being asked to take steps to address the rise of global temperatures.
One small step that we can each take to help meet SDG # 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, is to “do more and better with less.” Remembering back to grade school, we all learned about the power of the 3 R’s (i.e., first we should focus on reduction, then figure out ways to re-use items, and lastly, recycle/repurpose the item at the end of their natural life.) With the increased awareness and focus on zero waste management and material re-use, the time has come for us to implement a culture of re-use within our organizations.
